The two schools renewed their rivalry in basketball on November 22, 2010, as part of the Jesuit Basketball Spotlight, a national effort to bring attention to Jesuit education. In a game held at BC’s Conte Forum, Boston College posted a 69–56 victory, the Eagles’ 16th in their last 17 games against Holy Cross.22 On November 18, 2011, the Crusaders defeated the Eagles 86–64 in Worcester. By the late 1970s the Holy Cross game had become more of a tradition than a rivalry, as Holy Cross football began to cease to be a major power. By 1980, the game was no longer part of the student ticket package, and was mostly attended by alumni. In 1986 Holy Cross changed the direction of its football program, joining the Division I-AA Patriot League, and https://p1nup.in/ terminated the series.
In the first game against Binghamton there were several problems. The starter gave up five runs in less than two innings; the pitcher who relieved him fared little better, also allowing five runs but in 2 and a third innings; and the third and final pitcher demonstrated the least bad performance, allowing four runs in exactly two innings. At the plate, the team relied heavily on Danny Cronin, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
In 1917, Andrew Kelly set the world record in the 300 yard dash. Joe Tierney won the IC4A 440 yard title in 1925, and James Quinn won the IC4A 100 yard in 1928 before going on to win an Olympic gold medal in the 4 × 100 m relay. Leo Larrivee is the only other Crusader to earn an Olympic medal when his 3000-metre team finished with the bronze in the 1924 Olympic Games. In the early 1960s, Charlie Buchta and Kevin Kilgallen were prominent Crusaders on the national scene. Baillargeon, a line drive gap-to-gap hitter, has a career .280 average for the Crusaders.
Other national team championships
The best teams lose a third of their games and even the White Sox beat the Yankees sometimes. However, they also have not won most of their games and have not defeated any of their opponents in seven innings. Holy Cross has won more than 50 regular season and/or postseason conference championships throughout its Division I history.14 The majority of these have come in the Patriot League, where it currently competes for most sports. The Holy Cross football team played in the 1946 Orange Bowl. The team has since made the FCS postseason in 1983, 2009, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022.

Besides that, this game went poorly and I’d like to move on. Kyle Dembrowski (catchers) and Shane Bogli (outfielders) join the staff this season for their first season with the program. Hunt, a 6-3 righty, is a groundball specialist with a 3/4 arm slot. Mainly a fastball and slider pitcher, he has a turbo sinker that keeps the ball on the ground.
Holy Cross Crusaders baseball
If the Crusaders can be just a little bit better than bad, if they can display just a little more of what was positive this weekend, they can be mediocre. And, if they can be mediocre they can win the Patriot League title. And, if they win the Patriot League title, no matter what their record says, this year’s Holy Cross Baseball team will have been great.
« Crusader » moniker and mascot
The men’s rowing team is part of the Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges. Of its 27 varsity teams, Holy Cross supports 13 men’s and 14 women’s sports,2 giving Holy Cross the largest ratio of teams-per-enrollment in the country. Holy Cross’s athletic teams for both men and women are known as the Crusaders. Sean Scanlon and Jimmy King each had games where they beat the brakes off the baseball. The team was able to comeback from a frankly embarrassing loss in the first game to win the next day. The pitching wasn’t all that good but in a league where all but one team has a losing record, they might be able to survive it.
The team also boasts recent wins over top 10 teams, defeating #4 Texas A&M in 2012 and #7 Mississippi State in 2014. On March 24, 2006, the Holy Cross men’s hockey team made history by defeating the Golden Gophers of the University of Minnesota in the first round of the 2006 NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament by the score of 4–3, in overtime. The Holy Cross baseball team won the NCAA National Championship in 1952 and remains the only team from the northeastern part of the United States to have won the College World Series.5 The Crusaders also reached the College World Series in 1958, 1962, and 1963. In the last two of these seasons, the team featured pitcher Dick Joyce, who briefly made the major leagues, and third baseman John Peterman, who after a short minor-league career went on to become a successful entrepreneur who was parodied on Seinfeld. The Crusaders won their first Patriot League Baseball Tournament title in 2017 and returned to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1978 where it defeated No. 25 Nebraska.
College World Series Most Outstanding Player
Another player making a difference was Lucas Zafra, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs. Macchiarola, a four-pitch right-handed pitcher, leads the rotation for the Crusaders armed with a MPH fastball and wipe-out slider that induces plenty of swings and misses. He finished 2024 with a 6-5 record across 13 starts, with a 5.74 ERA and 67 strikeouts over 69.0 innings pitched. Senior right-handed pitcher and first baseman Sean Scanlon is back in the fold for the Crusaders after missing most of last season due to injury. A team captain, Scanlon was named the 2025 Preseason Patriot League Player of the Year and also earned a spot on the Preseason All-League Team as an at-large selection for the second consecutive campaign. The Holy Cross baseball team returns to the diamond for the 2025 season, which opens on Friday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m.
On November 28, 1942, Holy Cross beat BC in a huge upset by a score of 55–12, a result that proved fortunate for the losing Eagles. The BC team had booked their victory party for a popular Boston nightclub, but canceled after the upset loss. As a result, the Eagles were not among the nearly 500 who died or the hundreds more who were injured when the nightclub caught fire that night. The Holy Cross men’s basketball team has won two national tournament championships having won the NCAA Tournament in 1947 and the National Invitation Tournament in 1954 at a time when the NIT was considered to be equal to if not more prestigious than the NCAA Tournament.
Binghamton scored three more runs just to keep the game interesting but Holy Cross won ten to seven. Really the only bright spot for the Crusaders came in the form of shortstop Jimmy King. He batted in four of the five runs Holy Cross scored and was a double away from the cycle.

- King returns to the fold and brings his good barrel skills, solid glove at shortstop and plus speed as evidenced by his 21 stolen bases in 2024 which led the team, ranked second in the Patriot League and also ranks second on the program’s single-season list.

Notable former players include Boston Celtics legends and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inductees Bob Cousy and Tom Heinsohn. The Holy Cross women’s basketball team has also made several appearances in the postseason including 12 trips to the NCAA tournament as well as one appearance in both the Women’s National Invitation Tournament and the Women’s Basketball Invitational. They are 1–12 in the NCAA Tournament with the lone win coming in 1991 as an upset over 6th seeded Maryland.
This is the only victory in the NCAA Tournament for any team from the Patriot League. Six-time Patriot League Coach of the Year Bill Gibbons recorded his 500th win early in the 2011–2012 campaign. LeMond had a 3.52 ERA and 25 strikeouts across 30.2 innings with a team-high four saves which ranked fourth in the conference. Holy Cross has a rich history of success with its track & field program.
Holy Cross Athletics
For Xaverian’s part, Jude VanOoyen looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The Holy Cross Crusaders have a group of loyal fans, sometimes called the « Mount St. James Faithful » or the « Hart Center Faithful », the nickname coming from the athletic stadium at The College of the Holy Cross. “Sam Tinkham has done an outstanding job during his four years as our pitching coach and recruiting coordinator,” Kahovec said. “This promotion recognizes his fantastic work with our student-athletes, along with his diligent efforts behind the scenes that make our program operate at the highest level. The baseball program made a promotion and welcomed a pair of assistant coaches before the start of the season. King returns to the fold and brings his good barrel skills, solid glove at shortstop and plus speed as evidenced by his 21 stolen bases in 2024 which led the team, ranked second in the Patriot League and also ranks second on the program’s single-season list.
You may look at the blow-out and the shut-out against Binghamton and say Holy Cross baseball is bad this year. They are mediocre and in the Patriot League, that’s pretty good. Lehigh is the only team in the conference that’s won more games than they’ve lost so far. Holy Cross, despite being 8-10 after the Binghamton series, was left with the third highest winning percentage in the league.
In 1987, the team went undefeated and finished first in the national polls despite the Patriot League not allowing its teams to participate in the NCAA Tournament. Following the season-opening three-game series at Auburn, the Crusaders will duel George Washington (Feb. 21-23) before embarking on their spring break trip (March 1-March 9). Their home opener is slated for Tuesday, March 11 at 5 p.m. The Patriot League schedule begins at Lehigh on Saturday, March 22, while the first home league contest is Saturday, March 29 at 1 p.m. Holy Cross is scheduled to play 50 total games with 19 matchups on Fitton Field.
